Multi-touch "art of the possible"
Changing times...
We are taking big and exciting steps forward in the evolution of technology and the way we interact, recall and process information and data. The mouse and keyboard play an integral part in managing the process of using technology per-se, but that’s all changing. Touch screen technology is making large waves in the world today whether it’s to withdraw cash from your ATM or purchasing items at the grocery store, and no matter how familiar you or we are with this process it’s really just touching the surface of what the next evolution in multi-touch is offering.
Methods of multi-touch
We are seeing a big shift from single touch methods to pinch and gesture based movement. The mobile industry must have thought Apple had gone mad when they said ‘we’re launching a phone with only 1 button’ but we all know what happened next, the industry is now attempting to play catch-up to Apple’s great iPhone user experience (UX).
Multi-touch interfaces have the potential to alter the way we work with data and applications, resulting in more dynamic interactions around content. These devices and supporting applications offer innovative ways of visualising information to improve understanding. They also facilitate new ways to foster collaborative creation, permitting several users to work simultaneously on a single screen. Given their simplicity and the broad range of possibilities, multi-touch interfaces should in my opinion persuade businesses to embrace the technology taking a creative approach to how information is presented to the end user.
What’s round the corner?
The next two years we are going to see a big shift in the use of multi-touch – remember the film ‘Minority Report’ and the ability to truly interact with your virtual environment, well the technology has arrived in this generation.
The impact of multi-touch will be evident across all market sectors, healthcare, defence, leisure and travel not forgetting devices for our homes, it really does touch a very broad selection of industry.
Lead or be led?
Monochrome have always been about innovation and adapting its business model to embrace change and the technology that’s inevitable with change - we are always looking at new ways with which companies can derive real value and ROI from the solutions we build. 6 years ago we took the bold step to become one of the first businesses in the UK to offer rich business applications, and not to dissimilar to Apple when they were talking about the launch of something called the iPhone, some competitors thought we were “mad”. Glad to say we made the correct decision then and making the right decisions now. Once again we at Monochrome demonstrate our passion for innovation offering more to our clients and the forever increasing demand and expectations from their target audiences.
We truly believe in the “Art of the Possible”
